“The DAP, especially its secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is an expert at giving false hope to the people,” he said.
“The party claimed they are not corrupted and practise clean governance and this has enabled them to have RM1.2bil; but it did not mention that the Barisan Nasional administration had left behind RM900mil.”
Dr Chua said the Penang government had claimed to have settled RM600mil in debt, but what they actually did was to push the water supply loans to the Federal Government.
“The DAP boasts that the state's revenue has gone up, short of telling the people that they did this by selling state land.
“It is not something sustainable as land in Penang is limited. In three to five years, there will be no more land for sale and property prices will have gone up drastically,” he told more than 2,000 people at Bayan Baru Barisan Parliamentary Mesra Rakyat Dinner here last night.
Some 100,000 families were on the affordable housing waiting list, but Penang did not build a single unit of such houses between 2008 and 2010, he said, citing the Auditor-General's Report.
Dr Chua said Lim also claimed credit for Penang being top for attracting foreign investors in 2009 and 2010, describing it as a sign of the investors' confidence in the state administration.
“Now that Penang has plunged to the seventh spot this year, can we say foreign investors have lost confidence in DAP and Penang?” he asked.
Dr Chua also pointed out that Penang had recorded minus 1.8% growth from 2008 to 2010, against the 5.4% growth at the federal level.
“Four and a half years have gone by, but why did Lim not announce the state's development blueprint?”
Dr Chua said the DAP kept attacking the MCA and Gerakan and created an illusion that it was the dominant party in Pakatan Rakyat.
